Camilo Perez-Bustillo, Esq.

Camilo Pérez-Bustillo is a human rights scholar, law professor, and lawyer specialized in the rights of Indigenous Peoples and the rights of migrants, transitional justice and international law. Camilo is the child of migrants from Colombia and the parent of migrants from Mexico. He is based in Mexico City as co-founder and coordinator of the International Tribunal of Conscience of Peoples in Movement, as founding member of the leadership collective of Witness at the Border, is a Fellow of the Global Research Programme on Inequality at the University of Bergen in Norway and of the Research Group on New Latin American Constitutionalism at UNILA in Foz do Iguazú, Brazil, and is co-coordinator of the Task Force on the Americas of the National Lawyers Guild.

Camilo previously served as Executive Director of the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, Chair Professor of Human Rights and Social Justice at the College of Law of National Taiwan University, as a Research Fellow based at Stanford University's Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS), Director of Research and Advocacy at Hope Border Institute in El Paso/Ciudad Juárez, as inaugural Executive Director of the Human Rights Center at the University of Dayton, Director of Immigrant & Refugee Rights at the American Friends Service Committee, and was appointed to the Latin American Social Science Research Council's (CLACSO) first regional Human Rights "Emil Bustamante" Chair (2009), and to the W. Haywood Burns Memorial Chair in Civil Rights Law at CUNY Law School during 2002-2003.

His extensive publications in both English and Spanish include books such as Human Rights, Hegemony, and Utopia in Latin America: Poverty, Forced Migration and Resistance in Mexico and Colombia (Brill/Haymarket 2016/2017).
