Cheyenne C. Acree, Esq.

Staff Attorney

Cheyenne Acree is a Citizen of the Cherokee Nation and Staff Attorney at the Water Protector Legal Collective. Her work includes advocating for Indigenous land and water protection, Tribal sovereignty, and community-centered outcomes. Her experience includes environmental and natural resources law, policy development, and direct legal support for Indigenous legal initiatives and Tribal courts. She is an Equal Justice Works and MAPIL (Maine Association for Public Interest Law) Fellow as well as a former Co-Chair of Maine Law NALSA.


Cheyenne has supported Tribal courts through drafting court services agreements, participating in Healing to Wellness Court proceedings, and providing civil and criminal legal advocacy to tribal citizens. Her work is informed by an interdisciplinary background bridging law, environmental science, and social science, bringing a technically grounded and relational approach to her work.


Cheyenne holds a J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law, a B.S. in Social Science, and an M.S. in Earth Science. She also holds a certification in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) from the University of Colorado Boulder Leeds School of Business, is a Maine certified Guardian ad Litem (GAL), and an ICWA Qualified Expert Witness. She is licensed to practice law in Maine.
